Having a Will is no good if it cannot be found, it’s estimated that almost one third of Wills go missing! You should also note, that having a copy of a Will, whilst useful, is not valid for probate submission.
If your original Will cannot be found, then the court will deem you to have died Intestate and this may subsequently lead to unnecessary stress and delays to your family and beneficiaries, as well as your wishes not being executed as you would have hoped.
For a small yearly fee, Phoenix can store and safeguard the original Will so that you and your beneficiaries will know at all times where it is -should it be needed.
It may surprise you to find out that a lot of perfectly valid Wills cannot be found and, they’re not presented for probate. There are many good commercial and safe storage facilities available to keep your original Will secure and accessible.
There are good reasons to be concerned about the safety of a Will. Without having an appropriate Will storage service, your Will could be stored at home where anything could happen; fire could destroy it, someone with a grievance might deface it, or even children with a set of crayons looking for an interesting piece of paper to practice their colouring-in skills! Most people forget that Wills arerevoked by marks made after they have been signed, or even by the mark of a paper clip or staple. Even worse, the Will might simply be lost.
We recommend the Phoenix Wills safe storage service (‘Willsafe’), which takes care of everything and relieves you of the responsibility of looking after your Will.
